Caravelle’s Chief Concierge, Mr. Tung Nguyen has put together a list of «Dining Options and Recreations in Saigon» each uniquely chosen to portray the variety of food culture within the city.
SUNSET CRUISE: Explore the waterways in and around Saigon and see what life is like for people living and working in this amazingly diverse and rapidly developing city. In minutes, leave the urban metropolis behind to emerge along scenic jungle-fringed canals and minor tributaries where locals still observe traditional ways of life not far from the city centre. A light dinner will be served during your two-hour sunset tour. Return to Saigon just after sunset to see the city’s ever-changing skyline and bridges lit up spectacularly at night. Private or join-in.
_____________
VESPA CITY TOUR: The Caravelle offers a cross-section of Saigon’s colourful history and its legendary motorcycle traffic: a two-hour Vespa City Tour around the main district and French-influenced quarters of Ho Chi Minh City. Beginning in the afternoon, each passenger on the tour will have the chance to witness local life up close on the back of a vintage Italian scooter that will cruise along the Saigon River and past the city’s historic landmarks.
_____________
MEKONG DELTA: Vietnam’s rice basket, the Mekong Delta yields enough rice to feed the country with a sizable surplus. Although the Mekong is primarily rural, it is one of the most densely populated regions in Vietnam and nearly every hectare is intensively farmed. With lush rice paddies and fish farms, this delta plain also nourishes the cultivation of sugarcane, fruit, coconut and shrimp.
_____________
CU CHI TUNNELS: Extremely popular, this famous network of over 200 km of tunnels became legendary during the 1960's when they played a vital part in the American War, allowing the Viet Cong to control a large rural area close to Ho Chi Minh City. This functioning underground labyrinth consisted of secret trapdoors, weapon factories, command centers, hospitals, kitchens and sleeping quarters.
